St. Cloud Out - Meeting Minutes

June 11, 2009

Present: Jerry, Joe, Gabi, Rachel, Sarah, Brandi, Gary, Cassidy, Shawn, Thomas, Ryan

Secretary's Report:

  1. Minutes from May read by Gabi. Motion to approve by Jerry, seconded by Gabi and approved by all

Mission Statement:

  1. Rachel passed out the mission statement -- see website for text
  2. Does the mission statement still reflect our mission? Is this where we are directing our energy? Are we doing it? Are there things we need to add or subtract?
  3. We need to reach out to the leaders of the other groups in the area
  4. We should also look at our goals and objectives -- also on the website.
  5. Motion to table the discussion until everybody has a chance think about it all made by Brandi and seconded by Sarah. Approved by all.
  6. The advisory committee will meet in July and work on it.

Treasurer's Report:

  1. No changes in the bank account. Still one outstanding invoice for the film Fest.
  2. Our total is $2862.61.
  3. Sarah was looking into a bank that has online banking. she checked out Wells Fargo, St. Cloud Federal Credit Union and US Bank. She recommends US Bank because there is no minimum, no fees, allows 150 transactions and has online banking. Others had more restrictions.
  4. Brandi moved and Sarah seconded that we move to US Bank. Approved by all.
  5. Need to set up a time to transfer money.
  6. We discussed the pros and cons of online banking.
  7. Wolfe video still has not been paid for Vier Minuten

Funding/Grants/Fundraising Committee Report:

  1. Nothing to report

Film Fest Committee Report:

  1. We are getting an early start this year. Distributors are already sending us updates of film possibilities.
  2. Checking on dates with Dan at Pioneer Place in April. We would like two nights -- preferably during the third weekend in April.
  3. Rachel will fill out call for submissions forms for various film schools.

Duluth Superior Pride Committee Report:

  1. GAB would like to share a booth.
  2. Thomas moved and Sarah seconded that we should do Duluth Pride and pay up to $50 for registration, going in with GAB for a booth. Approved by all.
  3. It is Saturday September 5. 9 am set up and 6 pm take down. We need people to volunteer for two hour shifts.
  4. Thomas will cart it all to Duluth. Please bring whatever you have to the next meeting.
  5. It was suggested that we buy something from Oriental Trading Company to hand out advertising the film fest.

T-Shirt Event:

  1. Sarah talked to GAB and they will also sponsor the event.
  2. Isolde talked to the faculty at SCSU and they are considering it.
  3. The event would be the first or second week of the semester.

New Business:

BBQ at Wilson:

  1. Sarah suggested that we have a BBQ at Wilson in July and invite the whole GLBTQ community.
  2. Tentatively named the First Annual St. Cloud OUT Summer BBQ Jubilee
  3. Sarah, Gabi, Thomas and Cassidy will organize it.
  4. Brandi moved and Shawn seconded that we authorize the committee to spend up to $50 to make the Jubilee happen. Approved by all.

Announcements:

GLBTA Youth Group:

  1. Cassidy is starting a youth group. He has a place next to Mind, Body and Spirit downtown. They will advertise it in their newsletter. The group will address substance abuse.
  2. The group brainstormed contacts for him.
  3. If you are interested to help out or to join please contact send us an email or come to our next St. Cloud OUT meeting.
